MDF Price in Panama (CIF) - 2023
The average MDF import price stood at $848 per thousand cubic meters in July 2023, increasing by 4.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 46% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1.2 per cubic meter. From September 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($1.8 per cubic meter), while the price for Brazil ($734 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
MDF Price in Panama (FOB) - 2022
The average MDF export price stood at $748 per cubic meter in 2022, with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,725 per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belize ($2,469 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Nicaragua ($160 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahamas (+29.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
MDF Imports in Panama
In 2022, the amount of MDF imported into Panama stood at 7.6K cubic meters, remaining stable against 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. Imports peaked at 8.3K cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, MDF imports surged to $5.8M in 2022. In general, imports saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 113% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
