Manuka Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average manuka import price stood at $2,551 per ton in August 2023, reducing by -7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 5.1% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3,448 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($4,502 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1,369 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Manuka Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average manuka export price stood at $3,101 per ton in August 2023, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 25% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,538 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Trinidad and Tobago ($5,393 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($2,397 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Yemen (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Manuka Imports in the United States
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of manuka decreased by -6.5% to 206K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 220K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, manuka imports surged to $732M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +75.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
