Manuka Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In May 2023, the average manuka import price amounted to $3,069 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, the import price saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 5.1% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $3,690 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to May 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($5,418 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1,468 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Manuka Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average manuka export price stood at $2,838 per ton in May 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 8.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,328 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to May 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,207 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($2,427 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Manuka Imports in the United States
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of manuka decreased by -6.5% to 206K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 220K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, manuka imports skyrocketed to $732M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +75.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
