U.S. Honey Import Price in February 2023
In February 2023, the honey price amounted to $3,203 per ton (CIF, US), standing approximately at the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 5.1% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $3,949 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to February 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($5,304 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1,550 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

U.S. Honey Imports
In February 2023, approximately 12K tons of honey were imported into the United States; with a decrease of -22.3% compared with the month before. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from February 2022 to February 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, imports decreased by -48.2% against October 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 120% m-o-m.
In value terms, honey imports dropped markedly to $39M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a mild increase from February 2022 to February 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, imports decreased by -40.5% against August 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 114% against the previous month.
U.S. Honey Imports by Country
India (3.7K tons), Argentina (2.8K tons) and Brazil (1.3K tons) were the main suppliers of honey imports to the United States, together comprising 65% of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Turkey, Uruguay, Ukraine, Mexico and Canada, which together accounted for a further 27%.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +15.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest honey suppliers to the United States were Argentina ($9.6M), India ($9.5M) and Brazil ($4.9M), with a combined 62% share of total imports. Vietnam, Uruguay, Turkey, Mexico, Ukraine and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
Among the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +17.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
