Mandarins Price in Japan (CIF) - 2022

The average mandarins import price stood at $1,574 per ton in 2022, reducing by -22.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 10% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,039 per ton in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($5,716 per ton), while the price for South Africa totaled $170 per ton.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+33.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Mandarins Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average mandarins export price amounted to $10,026 per ton, with a decrease of -3.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 110% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $11,702 per ton. From June 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($12,238 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($9,416 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mandarins Imports in Japan

In 2022, supplies from abroad of fruit, edible decreased by -38.2% to 7.6K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated modest growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year.

In value terms, mandarins imports declined rapidly to $12M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 44%.

Mandarins Exports in Japan

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of fruit, edible, when their volume decreased by -4.7% to 1.5K tons. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.6K tons, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In value terms, mandarins exports contracted to $7.1M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +60.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 58%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $7.7M, and then fell in the following year.
