Maize Price in China (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average maize export price amounted to $1,382 per ton, shrinking by -18.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 31% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,687 per ton in August 2023, and then dropped notably in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($1,180 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($142 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Maize Price in China (CIF) - 2022

The average maize import price stood at $965 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price decreased by -3.1% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,447 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($8,000 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($1,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+71.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Maize Exports in China

In 2022, the amount of maize (green) exported from China fell to 258K tons, declining by -8.2% against 2021. In general, exports faced a abrupt descent.

In value terms, maize exports rose remarkably to $362M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.

Maize Imports in China

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of maize (green) decreased by -47.8% to 228 kg in 2022. Overall, imports faced a precipitous curtailment.

In value terms, maize imports dropped dramatically to $220 in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a dramatic shrinkage.
