Pimenta Pepper Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2023
The average pimenta pepper import price stood at $6,077 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -13.5% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a modest increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, pimenta pepper import price decreased by -25.3% against May 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 81% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $8,139 per ton. From June 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($12,825 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($5,164 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average pimenta pepper export price stood at $4,612 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 108%. The export price peaked at $15,785 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Solomon Islands ($5,958 per ton), while the average price for exports to Fiji ($3,351 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Samoa (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Pimenta Pepper Imports in New Zealand
In 2022, supplies from abroad of pimenta pepper decreased by -18.6% to 820 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend.
