Lemon and Lime Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023

The average lemon and lime import price stood at $1,684 per ton in August 2023, growing by 9.1% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a modest increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, lemon and lime import price increased by +61.9% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 20% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in August 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($2,460 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($740 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lemon and Lime Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average lemon and lime export price amounted to $1,808 per ton, waning by -2.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 139% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,993 per ton. From June 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($2,467 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($1,533 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Lemon and Lime Imports in Hungary

In 2022, approx. 22K tons of lemons and limes were imported into Hungary; picking up by 3.9% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 24K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lemon and lime imports rose modestly to $24M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $30M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Lemon and Lime Exports in Hungary

For the fourth consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in overseas shipments of lemons and limes, which increased by 29% to 5K tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 95% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, lemon and lime exports soared to $5.3M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
