Ghee Price in the UK (FOB) - 2023

The average ghee export price stood at $6,423 per ton in June 2023, increasing by 30% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $8,906 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Netherlands ($6,979 per ton) and Italy ($6,051 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($5,285 per ton) and Belgium ($5,729 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (-1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Ghee Price in the UK (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average ghee import price amounted to $6,061 per ton, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ghee import price increased by +48.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 44% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $6,482 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($9,686 per ton), while the price for Poland ($3,553 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ghee Exports in the UK

Ghee exports from the UK dropped to 13K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -13.9% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports saw a deep contraction. The smallest decline of -8.7% was in 2020.

In value terms, ghee exports surged to $105M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible decrease.

Ghee Imports in the UK

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of ghee, when their volume decreased by -13.1% to 7.5K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 8.6K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, ghee imports totaled $46M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 62%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
