Refined Palm Oil Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average refined palm oil export price stood at $1,240 per ton in December 2021, increasing by 2.1% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 when the average export price increased by 18% m-o-m. The export price peaked in December 2021.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Vietnam ($1,307 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($1,305 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($1,063 per ton) and Turkey ($1,142 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average refined palm oil import price stood at $1,292 per ton in December 2021, with an increase of 3.6% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2021 when the average import price increased by 12% m-o-m. The import price peaked in December 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($1,911 per ton), while the price for Indonesia stood at $1,274 per ton.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+9.9%).
Refined Palm Oil Exports in Malaysia
In 2022, overseas shipments of refined palm oil were finally on the rise to reach 9.4M tons after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease.
In value terms, refined palm oil exports fell to $8.1B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $9.3B, and then fell in the following year.

Refined Palm Oil Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of refined palm oil, when their volume decreased by -27.2% to 676K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 321% against the previous year.
In value terms, refined palm oil imports fell markedly to $653M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 238% against the previous year.
