Date Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average date import price amounted to $1,754 per ton, picking up by 9.9% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a slight expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, date import price decreased by -20.2% against May 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 68% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,198 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Palestine ($5,023 per ton), while the price for Iraq ($300 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Date Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average date export price amounted to $2,252 per ton, waning by -5.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 40% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,424 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,438 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($651 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Date Imports in Turkey
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of dates decreased by -6.6% to 52K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 18%.
In value terms, date imports shrank modestly to $63M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +13.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year.

Date Exports in Turkey
In 2022, overseas shipments of dates decreased by -21.1% to 15K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 52%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 19K tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, date exports dropped sharply to $30M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 69% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $38M, and then fell notably in the following year.
