Date Price in India (CIF) - 2023
The average date import price stood at $766 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a modest expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, date import price increased by +60.4% against February 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 23% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($1,003 per ton), while the price for Iraq ($324 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Date Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average date export price amounted to $436 per ton, with a decrease of -17.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 467% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,352 per ton. From June 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Nepal ($835 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($280 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nepal (-0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Date Imports in India
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of dates decreased by -7.5% to 439K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 475K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, date imports contracted slightly to $231M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +12.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year.
