Cottonseed Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2023
The average cottonseed import price stood at $233 per ton in July 2023, with a decrease of -2.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $289 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($244 per ton), while the price for Malawi totaled $233 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Cottonseed Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022
The average cottonseed export price stood at $1,460 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -66.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 324%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,349 per ton, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
