In 2015, the country with the largest volume of the karite nut output was Nigeria (358 thousand tonnes), accounting for 55% of global production. Moreover, karite nut output in Nigeria exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest producer, Mali (151 thousand tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Burkina Faso with a share of 7%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of karite nut producton in Nigeria stood at -2.1%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Mali (-2.3% per year) and Burkina Faso (-5.4% per year).

Global Karite Nuts Production

Global karite nut production amounted to 647 thousand tonnes in 2015, rising by +18.4% against the previous year level. Overall, the global karite nut output pursued a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015, when the output figure increased by +18% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global karite nut production attained its maximum volume of 777 thousand tonnes in 2011. From 2012 to 2015, the total karite nut output growth failed to regain its strength.

Over the analyzed period, global karite nut production was buoyed by growth of medical care and personal care products. These key factors are to remain relevant with regard to karite nut output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a noticeable contraction of the yield figures.

The world karite nut harvested area amounted to 518 thousand ha in 2015, which was 12.1% more than the previous year figure. The karite nut harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +2.8% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total karite nut harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand over the globe.
