Which Country Exports the Most Cottonseeds in the World?

Global cottonseed exports amounted to 838 thousand tonnes in 2015, dropping by -28.7% against the previous year level. Overall, the global cottonseed exports indicated a moderate growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +0.4% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +49% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global cottonseed exports attained its maximum volume of 1,365 thousand tonnes in 2012. From 2013 to 2015, the total cottonseed exports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $243 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +1.7%. This trend pattern, however, was roller-coasting throughout the analyzed period.

Cottonseed Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the cottonseed exports in 2015 were Greece (196 thousand tonnes), the United States (145 thousand tonnes), Cote d'Ivoire (97 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 52% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of cottonseed exports among the main exporting countries was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+11.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Greece (65 million USD), the United States (60 million USD) and Australia (37 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2015, together accounting for 67% of total exports.

Burkina Faso (+160.2% per year) had the highest growth rates of cottonseed exports among the main exporting countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
