Citrus Fruit Price in Tanzania (FOB) - 2022

The average citrus fruit export price stood at $392 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -41.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 98% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,079 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($434 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya amounted to $261 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Citrus Fruit Price in Tanzania (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average citrus fruit import price amounted to $829 per ton, growing by 77% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $951 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($900 per ton), while the price for South Africa stood at $813 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+150.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Citrus Fruit Exports in Tanzania

In 2022, overseas shipments of citrus fruits were finally on the rise to reach 1.1K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, faced a sharp descent.

In value terms, citrus fruit exports reduced remarkably to $432K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a dramatic downturn.

Citrus Fruit Imports in Tanzania

In 2022, imports of citrus fruits into Tanzania shrank to 217 tons, leveling off at the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 218 tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, citrus fruit imports soared to $180K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
