Citrus Fruit Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2022

The average citrus fruit import price stood at $1,738 per ton in 2022, growing by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 23%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,182 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($984 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Citrus Fruit Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022

The average citrus fruit export price stood at $1,808 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -6.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,031 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was French Polynesia ($3,494 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($1,614 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tonga (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Citrus Fruit Imports in New Zealand

For the third year in a row, New Zealand recorded decline in purchases abroad of citrus fruits, which decreased by -8% to 14K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt descent. The smallest decline of -2.5% was in 2021.

In value terms, citrus fruit imports fell modestly to $24M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced downturn. The smallest decline of -0.2% was in 2021.
