Cassava Price in Colombia (FOB) - 2022

The average cassava export price stood at $1,285 per ton in 2022, rising by 4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,398 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($1,784 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($701 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average cassava import price amounted to $794 per ton, picking up by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 47% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,420 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Costa Rica.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Costa Rica amounted to +5.3% per year.

Cassava Exports in Colombia

In 2022, approx. 386 tons of cassava were exported from Colombia; waning by -20.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 67%.

In value terms, cassava exports fell dramatically to $496K in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year.

Cassava Imports in Colombia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of cassava, when their volume decreased by -43.1% to 67 tons. In general, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 665%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 118 tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, cassava imports dropped dramatically to $53K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth.
