Global sweet potato consumption amounted to X thousand tonnes in 2015, waning by -X% against the previous year level. Overall, the global sweet potato consumption indicated a moderate growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, remained consistant, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +X% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global sweet potato consumption attained its maximum volume of X thousand tonnes in 2014. From 2015 to 2015, the total sweet potato consumption growth failed to regain its strength.

Global Sweet Potato Consumption
With nearly X thousand tonnes, China became the world’s leading sweet potato consuming country, accounting for X% of global consumption. The other major consumers were Nigeria (X thousand tonnes) and Tanzania (X thousand tonnes), with a share of X% and X%, respectively. Moreover, sweet potato consumption in China surpassed the figures recorded by Nigeria more than tenfold. They were followed by Ethiopia with a X% of global consumption share and Angola with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of sweet potato consumption in China stood at -X%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Nigeria (+X% per year) and Tanzania (+X% per year).
The highest levels of sweet potato per capita consumption was registered in Angola (X kg/year), followed by Tanzania (X kg/year), China (X kg/year), Ethiopia (X kg/year) and Nigeria (X kg/year), while the average per capita consumption of sweet potato was estimated at X kg/year in 2015.
In Ethiopia, per capita sweet potato consumption has grown noticably (+X% per year) in recent years. In 2015, Ethiopia per capita consumption reached X kg/year as compared with X kg/year in 2007.
