Cassava Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average cassava import price amounted to $1,113 per ton, waning by -18.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 141% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,712 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($3,196 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($448 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cassava Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average cassava export price amounted to $1,489 per ton, picking up by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cassava export price increased by +48.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,830 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($2,252 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($698 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+64.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cassava Imports in Belgium

In 2022, purchases abroad of cassava decreased by -42.6% to 1.9K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 233% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 5.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cassava imports fell rapidly to $2.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 145% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $4.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Cassava Exports in Belgium

In 2022, overseas shipments of cassava decreased by -93.6% to 95 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 18,416%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 4.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cassava exports dropped dramatically to $141K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 10,747%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $4.3M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
