Cabbage Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average cabbage import price amounted to $877 per ton, reducing by -6.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 21% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,357 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($1,371 per ton), while the price for Canada totaled $551 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Cabbage Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average cabbage export price amounted to $1,706 per ton, rising by 1.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 4.3% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,873 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,981 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1,149 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Trinidad and Tobago (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Cabbage Imports in the United States
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of cabbage and other brassicas, when their volume decreased by -0.9% to 524K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year.
In value terms, cabbage imports rose markedly to $584M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Cabbage Exports in the United States
In 2022, approx. 166K tons of cabbage and other brassicas were exported from the United States; with a decrease of -27.2% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 9.5% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 228K tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, cabbage exports declined markedly to $287M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 12%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $385M, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
