Which Country Imports the Most Cabbage in the World?

Global cabbage imports amounted to 2,300 thousand tonnes in 2015, jumping by +3.7% against the previous year level. Overall, the global cabbage imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +18% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global cabbage imports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global cabbage imports amounted to $1,649 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global cabbage imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +6.7%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Cabbage Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the cabbage imports in absolute volumes was the United States (379 thousand tonnes), accounting for 16% of global imports. It was followed by Canada (185 thousand tonnes), with a share of 8% of global imports. Moreover, cabbage imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Canada (185 thousand tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Germany with a share of 8%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of cabbage imports in the United States stood at +10.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Canada (+2.6% per year) and Germany (+2.4% per year).

In value terms, the United States (353 million USD), Canada (310 million USD) and Germany (165 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2015, together accounting for 50% of total imports.

the United States (+14.6% per year) had the highest growth rates of cabbage imports among the main importing countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
