U.S. Cabbage Import Price per Ton June 2022
In June 2022, the cabbage price per ton amounted to $1,119 (CIF, US), falling by -2.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,148 per ton in May 2022, and then shrank modestly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($2,364 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($1,094 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+12.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Cabbage Imports
For the third consecutive month, the United States recorded decline in overseas purchases of cabbage and other brassicas, which decreased by -17.5% to 31K tons in June 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 0.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 60K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cabbage imports fell significantly to $35M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. In general, imports faced a deep slump. The smallest decline of -0.4% was in February 2022. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $66M in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Cabbage Imports by Country
In June 2022, Mexico (27K tons) constituted the largest supplier of cabbage to the United States, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, cabbage imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (3.1K tons), ninefold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico amounted to -13.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+2.0% per month) and Guatemala (-6.9% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($30M) constituted the largest supplier of cabbage to the United States, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($3.4M), with a 9.7% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Mexico amounted to -13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+14.5% per month) and Guatemala (-7.8% per month).
