Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a precipitous curtailment. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports from the UK, with a 36% share of total exports. Moreover, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ireland (X tons), threefold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands stood at -26.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ireland (+1.3% per year) and the United States (-0.7% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exported from the UK were the United States ($X), India ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 36% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Mexico, Ireland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Ethiopia, Belgium and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 41%.

Mexico, with a CAGR of +57.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -4.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 246% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+27.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons increased by 45% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +57.6% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
