In 2021, the Asian unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons market was finally on the rise to reach $X after four years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 15%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Asia

For the sixth consecutive year, Asia recorded growth in overseas shipments of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons, which increased by 18% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 39%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Iran was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 71% of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 18% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Iran was also the fastest-growing in terms of the unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports, with a CAGR of +52.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Singapore (+6.4%), Japan (+2.2%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Iran increased by +66 percentage points.

In value terms, Iran ($X) remains the largest unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons supplier in Asia, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 9% share.

In Iran, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports increased at an average annual rate of +49.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+2.7% per year) and Singapore (+6.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia

In 2021, the amount of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons imported in Asia dropped to X tons, stabilizing at 2020 figures. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +23.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports in 2021 were Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons), China (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and India (X tons), together reaching 86% of total import. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +17.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons importing markets in Asia were Singapore ($X), Thailand ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 47% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 41%.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +14.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Thailand ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
