For the third year in a row, the Turkish laptop and tablet computer market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 11% to $X in 2021. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +98.9% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Production of Laptops and Palm-Top Computers in Turkey

In value terms, laptop and tablet computer production declined modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +69.5% against 2013 indices. In 2021, shipments abroad of laptops and palm-top computers increased by 93% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports recorded temperate growth. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, laptop and tablet computer exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cyprus (X units) was the main destination for laptop and tablet computer exports from Turkey, with a 39% share of total exports. Moreover, laptop and tablet computer exports to Cyprus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X units), twofold. China (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Cyprus stood at +5.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+30.6% per year) and China (+35.0% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Cyprus ($X) and Hungary ($X) were the largest markets for laptop and tablet computer exported from Turkey worldwide, together comprising 74% of total exports. These countries were followed by Oman, China, Germany, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, France, Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 11%.

Among the main countries of destination, Oman, with a CAGR of +290.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average laptop and tablet computer export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 5.3% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, laptop and tablet computer export price decreased by -7.9% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 60%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkmenistan (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey

In 2021, supplies from abroad of laptops and palm-top computers increased by 1.6% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after five years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, laptop and tablet computer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
