Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, laptop and tablet computer exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Canada (X units) was the main destination for laptop and tablet computer exports from the United States, accounting for a 34% share of total exports. Moreover, laptop and tablet computer exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR (X units), with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Canada amounted to +1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+4.6% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+3.4% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for laptops and palm-top computers exports from the United States, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Canada amounted to +4.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+3.0% per year) and Mexico (-6.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average laptop and tablet computer export price amounted to $X per unit, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of laptops and palm-top computers imported into the United States skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 16% against the previous year's figure. In general, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 47%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, laptop and tablet computer imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 24%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) was the main supplier of laptop and tablet computer to the United States, with a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, laptop and tablet computer imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X units), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+42.4% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.5% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of laptops and palm-top computers to the United States, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 3.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+18.0% per year) and Vietnam (+37.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average laptop and tablet computer import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit), while the price for Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
