At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+51.4%), Jordan (+14.2%) and Egypt (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +51.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Iran (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+10 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+7.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-7 p.p.) and Iran (-11.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest hot-rolled bearing steel bar supplier in MENA, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +9.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+1.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+35.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 38% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
