From 2017 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of hot-rolled bars in bearing steels increased by 13% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 112%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hot-rolled bearing steel bar exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 76%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) represented the key exporter of hot-rolled bars in bearing steels, creating 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), together comprising a 27% share of total exports. India (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hot-rolled bearing steel bar exports from China stood at -5.7%. At the same time, Turkey (+12.1%), India (+9.1%), South Korea (+8.1%) and Japan (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012-2021. South Korea (+5 p.p.), Japan (+4.7 p.p.) and Turkey (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while China saw its share reduced by -15.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest hot-rolled bearing steel bar supplier in Asia, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with an 8.8% share.

In China, hot-rolled bearing steel bar exports contracted by an average annual rate of -3.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (-0.5% per year) and South Korea (+5.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 40% against the previous year. Export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in India ($X per ton) and Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia

In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of hot-rolled bars in bearing steels, when their volume increased by 15% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hot-rolled bearing steel bar imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the six major importers of hot-rolled bars in bearing steels, namely South Korea, Israel, Thailand, Indonesia, China and Taiwan (Chinese), represented more than half of total import. Vietnam (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Turkey (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 10% share of total imports. India (X tons), Palestine (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Japan (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Israel (with a CAGR of +63.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 38% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Israel, with a CAGR of +54.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 28% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, hot-rolled bearing steel bar import price increased by +97.1% against 2016 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
