The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 127% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wood charcoal exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 143% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Saudi Arabia (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main destinations of wood charcoal exports from Kuwait, together accounting for 92% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +11.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average wood charcoal export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -24% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 59% against the previous year. For the fifth year in a row, Kuwait recorded decline in overseas purchases of wood charcoal, which decreased by -19.4% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 431% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Kenya (X tons) constituted the largest wood charcoal supplier to Kuwait, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, wood charcoal imports from Kenya exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Paraguay (X tons), with a 6.1% share.

The average wood charcoal import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 26% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wood charcoal import price increased by +88.8% against 2014 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
