Wood Charcoal Market Size in Japan

In 2020, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Japanese wood charcoal market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wood charcoal exports fell modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Viet Nam (X tonnes) was the main destination for wood charcoal exports from Japan, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, wood charcoal exports to Viet Nam exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes), threefold. The United Arab Emirates (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Viet Nam amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-X% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+X% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for wood charcoal exports from Japan, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by France ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to the United Arab Emirates stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+X% per year) and China (-X% per year).

In 2020, the average wood charcoal export price amounted to $X per tonne, dropping by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year.
