Pistachio Market Size in Germany

For the fourth year in a row, the German pistachio market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Pistachio consumption peaked in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Pistachio exports from Germany surged to X tonnes in 2020, increasing by X% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pistachio exports soared to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, total exports indicated measured growth from 2007 to 2020: its value decreased at an average annual rate of -X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes) and Spain (X tonnes) were the main destinations of pistachio exports from Germany, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, France, Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in the Czech Republic, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the UK ($X) were the largest markets for pistachio exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. France, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Lithuania and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main countries of destination, the Czech Republic recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average pistachio export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated perceptible growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the maximum at $X per tonne in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were France ($X per tonne) and the Czech Republic ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per tonne) and Luxembourg ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany

For the fourth consecutive year, Germany recorded growth in purchases abroad of pistachios, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. In general, total imports indicated a slight increase from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, pistachio imports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2020, the U.S. (X tonnes) constituted the largest pistachio supplier to Germany, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, pistachio imports from the U.S. exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (X tonnes), threefold.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per tonne), while the price for the U.S. amounted to $X per tonne.
