Pistachio Market Size in the U.S.
The U.S. pistachio market fell markedly to $X in 2021, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
Pistachio Production in the U.S.
In value terms, pistachio production declined remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, production, however, posted a remarkable increase. Exports from the U.S.
In 2021, the amount of pistachios exported from the United States soared to X tonnes, growing by X% compared with the year before. In general, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pistachio exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
China (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and Belgium (X tonnes) were the main destinations of pistachio exports from the United States, together comprising X% of total exports. Spain, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Israel, the UK, Turkey, India and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Vietnam (+X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the largest markets for pistachio exported from the United States worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports. Spain, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Israel, the UK, Japan, India and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average pistachio export price amounted to $X per tonne, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the highest prices were recorded for prices to Japan ($X per tonne) and the UK ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per tonne) and Turkey ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Pistachio Imports
Imports into the U.S.
In 2021, pistachio imports into the United States reduced notably to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, pistachio imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then dropped notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tonnes), Vietnam (X tonnes) and Canada (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of pistachio imports to the United States, with a combined X% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (+X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest pistachio suppliers to the United States were Turkey ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Spain ($X), together accounting for X% of total imports.

Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average pistachio import price amounted to $X per tonne, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, pistachio import price decreased by -X% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per tonne), while the price for Canada ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
