Pistachio Market Size in Asia

The Asian pistachio market declined remarkably to $X in 2020, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a tangible increase. Turkey (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

In Iran, pistachio production remained relatively stable over the period from 2007-2020. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+X% per year) and Turkey (+X% per year).

The average pistachio yield fell slightly to X kg per ha in 2020, almost unchanged from 2019 figures. Over the period under review, the yield showed a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tonnes per ha in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2020, the total area harvested in terms of pistachios production in Asia expanded slightly to X ha, surging by X% on 2019 figures. Moreover, pistachio production in Iran exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, China (X tonnes), threefold. From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume in Iran was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+X% per year) and Turkey (+X% per year).

In value terms, pistachio exports surged to $X in 2020. Total exports indicated notable growth from 2007 to 2020: its value decreased at an average annual rate of -X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Iran prevails in pistachio exports structure, accounting for X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. Turkey (X tonnes) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tonnes) and the United Arab Emirates (X tonnes). All these countries together occupied approx.
