The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The volume of export peaked in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, flax fiber exports stood at $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. The level of export peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2020, France (X tonnes) was the main exporter of flax fiber, making up X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tonnes), committing a X% share of total exports. The Netherlands (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in the Netherlands (+X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per tonne in 2019, and then fell in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per tonne), while the Netherlands ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. The volume of import peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country
Belgium was the key importing country with an import of about X tonnes, which resulted at X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tonnes), Lithuania (X tonnes) and Poland (X tonnes), together mixing up a X% share of total imports. The following importers - France (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) - together made up X% of total imports.
Imports into Belgium increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, the Netherlands (+X%) and Lithuania (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. By contrast, Germany (-X%), France (-X%), Poland (-X%) and Italy (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+X p.p.) and Belgium (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while France, Italy and Poland saw its share reduced by -X%, -X% and -X% from 2007 to 2020, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flax fiber in the European Union, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Lithuania ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a X% share.
In Belgium, flax fiber imports expanded at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007-2020. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lithuania (+X% per year) and Poland (+X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The flax fiber import price in the European Union stood at $X per tonne in 2020, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per tonne), while the Netherlands ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
