Flax Fiber Market Size in Romania

The Romanian flax fiber market amounted to $X in 2020, flattening at the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a resilient increase. Over the period under review, the yield, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The flax fiber yield peaked at X tonnes per ha in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2020, the total area harvested in terms of flax fiber production in Romania reached X ha, approximately mirroring 2019. Overall, the harvested area enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha. From 2015 to 2020, the growth of the flax fiber harvested area failed to regain the momentum.

For the third year in a row, Romania recorded growth in supplies from abroad of flax fiber, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. In general, imports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, flax fiber imports stood at $X in 2020. Overall, imports posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Egypt (X tonnes), Belarus (X tonnes) and Russia (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of flax fiber imports to Romania, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Russia, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest flax fiber suppliers to Romania were Egypt ($X), Belarus ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Russia, which accounted for a further X recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
