Flax Fiber Market Size in Finland

In 2020, the Finnish flax fiber market increased by X% to $X, rising for the eighth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a slight descent. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, flax fiber exports amounted to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tonnes) and Denmark (X tonnes) were the main destinations of flax fiber exports from Finland.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Denmark (+X% per year).

In value terms, Denmark ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest markets for flax fiber exported from Finland worldwide.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of flax fiber increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the fourth year in a row after six years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, flax fiber imports rose to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Denmark (X tonnes) constituted the largest flax fiber supplier to Finland, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, flax fiber imports from Denmark exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tonnes), fourfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Denmark amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+X% per year) and Sweden (+X% per year).
