Flax Fiber Market Size in Greece

In 2020, the Greek flax fiber market increased by X% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, flax fiber exports reached $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Bulgaria (X tonnes), Serbia (X kg) and Cyprus (X kg) were the main destinations of flax fiber exports from Greece, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Serbia (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) remains the key foreign market for flax fiber exports from Greece, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Serbia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Cyprus, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Bulgaria amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (+X% per year) and Cyprus (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average flax fiber export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, approximately equating the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, overseas purchases of flax fiber increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2018 indices. Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per tonne), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
