Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 11%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bedspread exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Portugal (X units), Poland (X units) and Germany (X units) represented roughly 50% of total exports in 2021. The Netherlands (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Spain (X units) and Romania (X units). All these countries together took approx. 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Italy (X units), France (X units), Belgium (X units), Slovenia (X units), Sweden (X units), Hungary (X units) and Estonia (X units) - together made up 21% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Slovenia (with a CAGR of +40.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Portugal ($X) remains the largest bedspread supplier in the European Union, comprising 28% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 10% share.
In Portugal, bedspread exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+12.4% per year) and Germany (+0.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, growing by 19% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per unit), while Slovenia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Bedspread Imports
Imports in the EU
In 2021, the amount of bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) imported in the European Union skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 21% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bedspread imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of bedspread imports in 2021 were Spain (X units), France (X units), Germany (X units), Italy (X units), Greece (X units) and Poland (X units), together recording 69% of total import. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units), making up a 4.7% share of total imports. The following importers - Romania (X units), Sweden (X units), Belgium (X units), Austria (X units), Denmark (X units) and Hungary (X units) - together made up 16% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest bedspread importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 41% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, Belgium, Austria, Greece, Denmark and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 46%.
Greece, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 27%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while Greece ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
