In 2021, approx. X tons of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates were exported in Eastern Europe; picking up by 11% compared with the year before. In general, exports, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 133% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 116% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, the Czech Republic (X tons), distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the main exporters of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates, together making up 95% of total exports. Hungary (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Hungary (with a CAGR of +65.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 82% of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Russia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Among the main exporting countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +83.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 100%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates increased by 15% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2021. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.9% share, followed by Belarus (6.3%) and the Czech Republic (4.8%). The following importers - Bulgaria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - together made up 8.9% of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ukraine (+15.6%), Belarus (+11.4%) and Hungary (+9.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ukraine emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2021. Bulgaria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (-2.4%) and the Czech Republic (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+6 p.p.) and Belarus (+3.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Poland (-3.7 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-8.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates in Eastern Europe, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 14% share.

In Russia, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+3.4% per year) and Hungary (+18.0% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 1.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%.
