In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 20%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in the EU
In 2021, overseas shipments of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Finland was the major exporter of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates in the European Union, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 64% of total exports in 2021. France (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Spain (X tons) and Sweden (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 30% share of total exports. Austria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to chlorates, bromates and iodates exports from Finland stood at -8.7%. At the same time, Austria (+51.0%), Spain (+39.4%), France (+34.5%) and Sweden (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Austria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +51.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of France, Spain, Sweden and Austria increased by +14, +11, +3.8 and +3.3 percentage points, respectively. Finland (-30.8 p.p.) saw their shares reduced.
In value terms, France ($X) remains the largest chlorates, bromates and iodates supplier in the European Union, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 6.3% share.
In France, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports increased at an average annual rate of +20.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Finland (-8.0% per year) and Spain (+22.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -43.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 241%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Chlorates And Perchlorates, Bromates And Perbromates, Iodates And Periodates
Imports in the EU
After three years of decline, purchases abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates increased by 16% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Sweden was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 41% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Portugal (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together creating a 41% share of total imports. Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +29.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, the largest chlorates, bromates and iodates importing markets in the European Union were Sweden ($X), Belgium ($X) and Portugal ($X), together comprising 38% of total imports. Germany, Poland, Austria and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +12.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -4.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
