For the fourth year in a row, China recorded decline in shipments abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates, which decreased by -12.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 40%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports declined slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 2.8%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of chlorates, bromates and iodates exports from China, with a combined 45% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Mexico, Turkey, Indonesia, Guatemala, Australia, Russia, Kenya, the Philippines and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Russia (with a CAGR of +37.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for chlorates, bromates and iodates exported from China worldwide, together accounting for 36% of total exports. These countries were followed by Japan, Mexico, Turkey, Australia, Indonesia, Russia, Guatemala, Kenya, the Philippines and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 38%.
Russia, with a CAGR of +37.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average chlorates, bromates and iodates export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Chlorates And Perchlorates, Bromates And Perbromates, Iodates And Periodates
Imports into China
In 2021, supplies from abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates decreased by -64.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 450%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 120% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest chlorates, bromates and iodates supplier to China, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Chile (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States totaled +11.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-14.1% per year) and Chile (+2,310.1% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), India ($X) and Chile ($X) constituted the largest chlorates, bromates and iodates suppliers to China, with a combined 66% share of total imports.
Chile, with a CAGR of +2,413.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average chlorates, bromates and iodates import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 220% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+60.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
