In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Asian chlorates, bromates and iodates market, when its value decreased by -4.6% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 9.5% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Asia
For the fourth year in a row, Asia recorded decline in overseas shipments of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates, which decreased by -12.1% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 34%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports fell slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China represented the largest exporter of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates in Asia, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 59% of total exports in 2021. Singapore (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons) and India (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 37% share of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to chlorates, bromates and iodates exports from China stood at -14.9%. At the same time, Singapore (+13.0%), India (+11.3%) and Pakistan (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +13.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+16 p.p.), India (+7.7 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+6.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while China saw its share reduced by -31.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 90% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Singapore, with a CAGR of +11.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 14% against the previous year. Export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, chlorates, bromates and iodates export price increased by +20.7% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 33%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 13%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 35% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by India (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and South Korea (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 46% share of total imports. The following importers - Indonesia (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - each reached a 9.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to chlorates, bromates and iodates imports into Japan stood at -2.9%. At the same time, Singapore (+12.4%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Vietnam (-1.2%), Pakistan (-2.2%), Thailand (-3.9%), South Korea (-4.5%), India (-7.8%) and Indonesia (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+5.7 p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.1 p.p.) and Japan (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while India and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -5.8% and -6.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates in Asia, comprising 25% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 9.4% share.
In Japan, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports declined by an average annual rate of -4.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-4.9% per year) and South Korea (+2.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 12%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+7.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
