Imports into Argentina
In 2021, purchases abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates decreased by -0.9% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 281% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 33%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
Brazil (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of chlorates, bromates and iodates imports to Argentina, together comprising 50% of total imports. These countries were followed by Chile, Canada, Free Zones and the United States, which together accounted for a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Canada (with a CAGR of +3.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Brazil ($X), Uruguay ($X) and Canada ($X) constituted the largest chlorates, bromates and iodates suppliers to Argentina, with a combined 83% share of total imports.
Brazil, with a CAGR of +14.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average chlorates, bromates and iodates import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -11.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 231%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+26.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
