Video Game Console Price in China (FOB) - 2022

The average video game console export price stood at $389 per unit in 2022, rising by 17% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,354 per unit), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($210 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+23.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Video Game Console Price in China (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average video game console import price amounted to $1,801 per unit, surging by 115% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 375% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,909 per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($47,232 per unit), while the price for Vietnam ($767 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+42.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Video Game Console Exports in China

For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in shipments abroad of video game consoles, which increased by 5.3% to 47M units in 2022. In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, video game console exports surged to $18.1B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, overseas purchases of video game consoles decreased by -6.1% to 383K units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 424K units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, video game console imports skyrocketed to $690M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
