Toy Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2022

In 2021, the average toy import price amounted to $10,541 per ton, with an increase of 8.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $11,154 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($28,524 per ton), while the price for Italy ($7,528 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Toy Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

The average toy export price stood at $4,131 per ton in June 2023, waning by -22.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 201% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $10,549 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($17,548 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($1,931 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Toy Imports in the Netherlands

For the fourth year in a row, the Netherlands recorded growth in purchases abroad of dolls and toys, which increased by 132% to 405K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, toy imports skyrocketed to $2.2B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 35%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Toy exports from the Netherlands soared to 290K tons in 2022, picking up by 108% on the year before. Overall, exports recorded significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, toy exports skyrocketed to $2B in 2022. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +60.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
