Spice Price in Norway (CIF) - 2022
The average spice import price stood at $7,812 per ton in 2022, waning by -8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 7.2%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $10,121 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($15,572 per ton), while the price for China ($3,262 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Price in Norway (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average spice export price amounted to $10,554 per ton, shrinking by -49.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $20,800 per ton in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($53,824 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($3,835 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+15.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Imports in Norway
In 2022, overseas purchases of spices decreased by -7.6% to 3.3K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spice imports contracted remarkably to $26M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year.
