The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 454% against the previous year. Sweden (X tons) was the main destination for piper pepper exports from Norway, with a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, piper pepper exports to Sweden exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X kg), eightfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Sweden totaled +17.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (-0.6% per year) and the Netherlands (-26.0% per year).
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the key foreign market for piper pepper exports from Norway, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Denmark ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Sweden stood at +16.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (-5.5% per year) and the Netherlands (-22.2% per year).

In 2021, the average piper pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -2.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway
In 2021, approx. X tons of piper pepper were imported into Norway; growing by 4.2% against 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, piper pepper imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a mild curtailment. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Vietnam (X tons), India (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main suppliers of piper pepper imports to Norway, with a combined 79% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Denmark, Indonesia, Germany, the UK and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 11%.

In value terms, India ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Sri Lanka ($X) were the largest piper pepper suppliers to Norway, together comprising 76% of total imports. Brazil, the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Indonesia, Germany and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.
Among the main suppliers, Denmark, with a CAGR of +20.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average piper pepper import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 7.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
