Quinoa Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023

In October 2023, the average quinoa import price amounted to $2,436 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 16% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,853 per ton. From July 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Peru.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Spain amounted to +10.9% per month.

Quinoa Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023

The average quinoa export price stood at $4,154 per ton in October 2023, picking up by 8.1% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in October 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($5,908 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($3,212 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Quinoa Imports in Italy

Quinoa imports into Italy surged to 4.9K tons in 2022, with an increase of 35% compared with the year before. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, quinoa imports skyrocketed to $11M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $11M; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
