In August 2023, the average rye export price amounted to $237 per ton, waning by -10.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 5.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $339 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Italy ($261 per ton) and the Netherlands ($253 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($217 per ton) and Belgium ($237 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (-1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In August 2023, the average rye import price amounted to $721 per ton, shrinking by -40.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 474% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,419 per ton. From November 2022 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($989 per ton), while the price for Poland ($488 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
