Primary Fiber Crops Price in India (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average primary fiber crops export price amounted to $1,049 per ton, declining by -18.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,571 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($2,886 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($249 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Primary Fiber Crops Price in India (CIF) - 2022

The average primary fiber crops import price stood at $2,881 per ton in 2022, picking up by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, primary fiber crops import price increased by +56.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($4,926 per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($900 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Primary Fiber Crops Exports in India

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of fiber crops (primary), when their volume decreased by -39.7% to 1.5M tons. Overall, exports recorded a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 29%.

In value terms, primary fiber crops exports reduced rapidly to $1.5B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $3.2B, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In 2022, the amount of fiber crops (primary) imported into India skyrocketed to 596K tons, with an increase of 115% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline.

In value terms, primary fiber crops imports skyrocketed to $1.7B in 2022. In general, imports posted a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
